OPERATING   O N   A   S LOPE  
Slopes  are  a  major  factor  related  to  accidents  involving  slips  and  falls,  which  can  result  in  severe  injury.  Operating  the  
mower  on  a  slope  requires  extra  caution.  If  you  feel  uneasy  on  a  slope,  do  not  mow  it.  For  your  safety,  use  the  slope  
gauge  that  is  included  as  part  of  this  manual  to  measure  slopes  before  operating  this  mower  on  a  sloped  or  hilly  area.  
Do   n ot   m ow   a   s lope   t hat   h as   a n   a ngle   o f   g reater   t han   1 5°.  
•   Mow   across   the   face   of   a   slope,   and   never   up   and   down.   Exercise   extreme   caution   when   changing   direction   on   a  
slope.  
•   Watch  for  holes,  ruts,  rocks,  hidden  objects,  or  bumps  that  may  cause  a  slip  or  a  trip.  Tall  grass  can  hide  obstacles.  
Remove   a ll   o bjects   s uch   a s   r ocks,   t ree   l imbs,   e tc.,   t hat   c an   b e   t ripped   o ver   o r   t hrown   b y   t he   b lade.  
•   Always  be  sure  of  your  footing.  If  you  feel  like  you  are  losing  your  balance,  release  the  switch  handle  immediately.  
The   b lade   w ill   s top   r otating   w ithin   3   s econds.  
•   Do   n ot   m ow   n ear   d rop-­‐offs,   d itches,   o r   e mbankments,   b ecause   y ou   c ould   l ose   y our   f ooting   o r   b alance.  
•   Do   n ot   m ow   a   s lope   t hat   h as   a n   a ngle   o f   g reater   t han   1 5°,   a s   d etermined   u sing   t he   s lope   g auge.  
•   Do   n ot   m ow   w et   o r   d amp   g rass.   U nstable   f ooting   c an   c ause   s lipping.  
CHILDREN  
•   Tragic   a ccidents   c an   o ccur   i f   t he   o perator   i s   n ot   a ware   o f   t he   p resence   o f   c hildren.   K eep   c hildren   o ut   o f   t he   m owing  
area   a nd   u nder   t he   w atchful   c are   o f   a   r esponsible   a dult.   S tay   a lert,   a nd   t urn   t he   m ower   o ff   i f   a   c hild   e nters   t he   m owing  
area.   Look   behind   and   down   for   small   children   before   and   while   moving   backwards.   Use   extreme   care   when  
approaching  blind  corners,  doorways,  shrubs,  trees,  or  other  objects  that  may  obscure  your  view  of  a  child  who  may  
run   i nto   t he   p ath   o f   t he   m ower.  
•   Do  not  allow  children  under  the  age  of  14  to  operate  this  mower.  Children  who  are  14  years  of  age  and  older  must  
read   a nd   u nderstand   t he   o perating   i nstructions   a nd   s afety   r ules   i n   t his   m anual   a nd   m ust   b e   t rained   a nd   s upervised   b y  
a   p arent.  
 
SERVICE  
•   When  servicing  the  mower,  use  only  replacement  parts  that  are  listed  in  this  manual.  The  use  of  parts  that  do  not  
meet   t he   o riginal   e quipment   s pecifications   m ay   l ead   t o   i mproper   p erformance,   a nd   m ay   c ompromise   s afety.  
•   Before   c leaning,   r epairing,   o r   i nspecting,   v erify   t hat   t he   b lade   a nd   a ll   m oving   p arts   h ave   c ome   t o   a   c omplete   s top.   I n  
order   t o   p revent   a ccidental   s tart-­‐ups,   d isconnect   t he   p ower   c ord   w hen   t he   m ower   i s   n ot   i n   u se.  
•   Follow   t he   i nstructions   f or   l ubricating   a nd   c hanging   a ccessories.  
•   Inspect   the   lawn   mower's   power   cord   and   extension   cords   regularly   and   replace   them   immediately   if   they   are  
damaged.   I n   o rder   t o   o btain   r eplacement   p arts,   c all   t he   t oll-­‐free   h elpline.  
•   Keep   t he   h andles   d ry,   c lean   a nd   f ree   o f   o il   a nd   g rease.  
•   In   o rder   t o   r educe   t he   r isk   o f   f ire,   k eep   t he   m otor   f ree   o f   g rass,   l eaves,   a nd   d ebris   b uild   u p.  
•   Check   the   blade   and   the   motor   mounting   bolts   frequently   for   proper   tightness.   Visually   inspect   blade   for   damage  
(e.g.,   b ent,   c racked,   o r   w orn).  
•   For   best   and   safest   performance,   maintain   the   mower   with   care.   Keep   the   mower   blade   sharp   and   clean.   Mower  
blades   a re   s harp   a nd   c an   c ut.   W rap   t he   b lades   o r   w ear   g loves   a nd   u se   e xtra   c aution   w hen   s ervicing.  
•   Keep   a ll   n uts,   b olts   a nd   s crews   t ight   i n   o rder   t o   b e   s ure   t hat   t he   m ower   i s   i n   s afe   w orking   c ondition.  
•   Do   n ot   t amper   w ith   s afety   d evices.   C heck   t hem   r egularly   f or   p roper   o peration.  
•   After   s triking   a   f oreign   o bject,   s top   t he   m otor   a nd   d isconnect   t he   p ower   c ord.   T horoughly   i nspect   t he   m ower   f or   a ny  
damage.   R epair   a ny   d amage   b efore   o perating   t he   m ower.  
•   The   grass   catcher   components,   discharge   cover   and   trail   shield   are   subject   to   wear   and   damage,   which     could  
expose   moving   parts   or   allow   objects   to   be   thrown.   As   a   safety   precaution,   check   the   components   frequently   and  
immediately   replace   any   parts   that   show   signs   of   wear,   or   that   are   cracked   or   broken.   Use   original   equipment  
manufacturer's   ( OEM)   p arts   o nly,   a s   l isted   i n   t his   m anual.
