External LCD Display: Displays time and date information, incoming calls or messages. Speakerphone Key: Press this key to enable/disable the speakerphone option. During a call press the speakerphone key to enable/disable. When the speakerphone option is enabled/ disabled you will hear a tone. Camera Key: This button is used to launch the integrated digital camera.

Earpiece: The earpiece allows you to hear the other caller. Display Screen: This screen displays all the information you need to operate your phone. Navigation Keys: These keys allow you to scroll through the phone menu options and provide a shortcut to phone functions when in Idle mode.

Special Function Keys • Shift/Asterisk: • Enters the asterisk [*] character for calling features. • In text entry mode, press the key to switch between letter cases when using the input type Alpha (ABC, Abc, abc) or • In Idle mode, press and hold to switch your handset to Silent Mode (with vibration).

12. END Key: • During a call, press this key to end the call. • When you receive an incoming call, press this key to reject the call. • When the phone is off or in Idle mode, press and hold this key for a few seconds to turn your phone on or off.
Understanding the Display Screens Your phone’s display screens provide a wealth of information about your phone’s status and options. When the phone is closed, the exterior display screen is dimmed. To illuminate the exterior display screen, press any of the side or front keys. The interior screen has three areas: Displays various icons.

Indicates that a data transfer is in progress Indicates that data is being sent. Indicates that data is being received. Indicates that the phone is in data dormant mode. Indicates that a circuit data transfer is occurring. Indicates that an alarm is set on your phone. Indicates that the speaker is enabled.

Indicates that the message has expired. If the Delivery Report setting is enabled, this icon appears in the Delivery Status after you download an MMS message from the server. Indicates that the message was rejected according to rejection settings. Indicates that a message has been saved on the server for downloading at a later time.
Appears when the ringer in High+Vib mode. Appears when only the ringer is set to vibrate. Shows the level of your battery. The more bars you have, the more power you have remaining. Getting Started Installing and Charging the Battery Your phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (Li-ion) battery. It allows you to recharge your battery before it is fully drained. When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone sounds and a message repeats at regular intervals on the display.
Charging the Battery with the Travel Adapter Your phone is powered by a rechargeable standard Li-ion battery. Use Samsung-approved charging devices and batteries. Samsung accessories are designed to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and may cause damage.
icon indicates that the battery is full. If the battery charge is getting too low, the battery icon blinks and the phone sounds a warning tone. Warning! Using the wrong battery charger could cause damage to your phone and void the warranty. Make sure the power is off so that you don’t lose any stored numbers or messages.
Phone Basics Displaying Your Phone Number In case you forget your phone number, your phone can remind you. To display your phone number, Press the left soft key for Menu, followed by . Your My Name Card is displayed with your phone number.
Calling Emergency Numbers You can place calls to 911 (dial and press ), even if your phone is locked or your account is restricted. Adjusting the Volume During a call, if you want to adjust the earpiece volume, use the Volume keys on the left side of the phone.
Press to dial the number. — or— Press right soft key for Options and press for Save to save the number in your Contacts list. When dialing a number with a hard pause, press to send the next set of numbers. To use Two-Touch Dialing for Speed Dial locations 10-99: Press the first digit. Press and hold the second digit for approximately two seconds. (The display confirms that the number has been dialed when it shows the saved call ID or number.) Note : Your phone also supports 1 to 4 digit dialing.
The following options are also available to handle an incoming call: • Press either of the side volume keys to quiet the ringer. • Press the right soft key key to Ignore the incoming call and send it directly to your Voice Mail box. Missed Call Notification When an incoming call is not answered, the Missed Call log is displayed on your screen.
• Call History: checks your call log for Recent, Dialed, Received and Missed calls. You can also erase the logs and view call times from this menu. See "Call History" on page 43. • Voice Memo: allows you to record the other person’s conversation during a call.
Mute/UnMute You can place the current call on hold by pressing the left soft key for Mute. To reactivate your phone’s microphone, press the left soft key again for UnMute. End-of-Call Options After receiving a call from or making a call to a phone number that is not in your Contacts, the phone number and the duration of the call are displayed.
To change the character input mode: When you display a screen where you can enter text, press the for Options. right soft key Select a character input mode: • Alpha to enter characters with the keypad (see page 25). • T9(English) to enter characters using predictive T9 Text Input (see the next topic).
To enter text using T9: From the text entry screen (for example, a new event in scheduler), press the for Options and select right soft key T9 (English). Use the keypad to enter the new event. (For example, to enter “Meeting”, press once, twice,...
After a character is entered, the cursor automatically advances to the next space after two seconds or when you enter a character on a different key. Entering Numbers and Symbols To enter numbers: • Select the Number mode and press the appropriate key. (See “Selecting a Character Input Mode”...
Responding to Call Waiting When you’re on a call, Call Waiting alerts you of incoming calls by sounding two beeps. Your phone’s screen informs you that another call is coming in and displays the caller’s phone number (if it is available and you are in digital mode).

Contacts Use the Contacts menu to store your phone numbers and other contact information. You can specify the following information for each contact you add to your Contacts list: Mobile, Home, Office, Pager, Fax, E-mail1, E-mail2, and Other. You can store up to 500 entries. Adding New Entries Adding New Entries in Idle Mode To add a New Entry while in Idle mode:...
Press for New Entry. Enter the new contact information. See "Adding New Entries in Idle Mode" on page 35. Finding, Editing or Dialing Contacts You can access your Contacts from the Idle screen by pressing the right soft key . Otherwise, to find an entry from the Contacts menu: Press the left soft key for Menu.
Press the navigation key down until Ring is selected and press the right soft key for Edit. Using the navigation keys, select a ringer category and press Press the navigation key up or down to highlight and listen to the desired ringer. Press to select the desired ringer.
When you find the image, highlight it and press the left soft key for Assign. Press the left soft key for Done to save the changes to the contact entry. Groups Assigning Contacts to Groups You can associate a preset group name to your entries to help you sort them easier in the Contacts.
To add a contact to the group, highlight the desired contact and press to Add. The Add option appears for the left soft key only if the selected Contact has a Mobile phone number or an e-mail address entry. If you select a contact with only a home phone number, for example, and try to add it, you will receive the following message, “This entry can’t be set as group”.
Select an option: • Add New Group: Enter the new group name and press the left soft key for Done. • Rename Group: You can rename existing groups. Use the key to delete the text. After entering the new name, press the left soft key for Done.
Editing Speed Dial Entries To edit the number assigned to a speed dial location: Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Contacts. Press for Speed Dials. Using the navigation keys, select the speed dial number you want to edit. Select an option: •...
My Name Card This function is similar to an entry in the Contacts list, except that it contains your own contact information, like a business card. You can transfer it to another Bluetooth-enabled device or send it in messages. Press the left soft key for Menu.
Call History With Call History, you can: • view calls you missed, received, or dialed • view the length of calls made and received Note: You can access the most recent numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key while in Idle mode.
Call History Options For additional information on a particular call, highlight a Call History entry and press . The time and date of the call is displayed. : You can also scroll between Call History categories by pressing the navigation key left or right. Press the right soft key for Options to select one of the following options for this entry.
• Received Calls: Delete your received calls. • Dialed Calls: Delete your dialed calls. • Missed Calls: Delete the calls you missed. Confirm the deletion by selecting Yes and pressing Call Timers Call Timers allows you to check the time of the last call or the total air time since your phone was activated on the network.
Messaging You can send and receive a range of different message types from your phone. Press the left soft key for Menu, followed by for Messaging. This menu has the following messaging options: • Voice Mail: allows you to access your voice mailbox and check for voice messages.

To add slides to your message Messages can contain up to 1000 characters. For lengthy messages, you can divide the message text among two slides. Each slide presents one screen of information. MMS Options • Read Report: allows you to turn Read Report Off or On. When On, you will be notified when your message is read by the message’s recipient. • Delivery Report: allows you to turn Delivery Report Off or On.
To save your text message You can save a draft of your message prior to sending it. From the message composition screen, highlight More using the navigation keys and press for Options right soft key • Press for Save to Drafts. The message is now stored in your Drafts folder.

Drafts This folder contains drafts of unfinished or unsent text and multimedia messages. From this folder, you can complete and send your messages. Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Messaging. Press for Text and Multimedia. Press for Drafts. Your draft messages appear in a list. Highlight the desired draft message and press Complete your message.
Erase Messages You can erase messages at anytime from the Inbox, Outbox/Send, Draft or Saved message folders. To erase the messages from the desired folder: Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Messaging. Press for Text and Multimedia. Press for Erase Messages.
• Priority: allows you to change the priority of the message between Normal and Urgent. • Acknowledge: allows you to turn Acknowledge Off or On. When On, this option allows you to have a return message sent back notifying you that the message was received and read by the recipient.

Save to Outbox: allows you to adjust whether sent messages are saved in your Outbox. Your options are: • Auto Save: automatically saves a copy of the outgoing message in the filed folder. • Prompt: prompts you to save a copy of the outgoing message. •...
Auto Scrolling: The scroll timer allows you to set the length of time a message takes to scroll across the screen. Options are Off, Seconds 5 Seconds or 10 Seconds. Message Reminder: This option allows you to configure how often you are notified of new text messages. Options are Off, Once, or Every 2 min.

When you launch the browser, the phone automatically connects to the Internet.

Shortcut: To activate Camera mode, you can also press and hold the Camera button located on the right side of the phone. Using the phone’s main LCD as a viewfinder, aim the camera lens at your subject.
To take pictures with the phone closed Press and hold the Side Camera button to activate Camera mode. Point the camera lens at your subject. You can check the picture framing through the external display screen. Note: If the subject image is in reverse on the external display, you can invert it using the volume keys on the left side of the phone to display the image correctly.

Voice Memo You can use your phone to record brief memos to remind you of important events, phone numbers, or other items. Recording Voice Memos To record a voice memo: Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Tools & Apps. Press for Voice Memo.
Recording Phone Call Conversations To record a conversation during a phone call: During a call, press the right soft key for Options. Press for Voice Memo. (A one minute counter is displayed on the screen to indicating the amount of time a single voice memo can be recorded.) Press the left soft key to Pause.
Voice Service Activating Voice Recognition Voice recognition allows you to say commands to perform common functions supported by your phone. There is no voice training required to use the voice recognition feature. You simply say the pre- designated command displayed on your screen in a normal tone of voice to perform the desired function.

• The phone recognizes the digits one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, zero, and oh. The phone does not recognize numbers such as “one eight hundred” for “1-800”. Instead, say “one-eight-zero-zero”. • The phone recognizes only valid 7, 10 or 11 digit North American phone numbers.

• If you said a name listed in your Contacts that has more than one number associated with it, the phone displays the different locations (Home, Office, Mobile, Pager, Fax) and asks you which one to dial. Say one of the location names and the phone will dial the number for the location you specified.
Lookup Lookup lets you retrieve contact information for any person in your Contacts by saying the full name of the person. To retrieve information using Lookup: Activate voice recognition by pressing and holding . (The phone will prompt you for a command.) Say Lookup.
The Send To page opens. If the correct contact is displayed, press the Next soft key, and create your message. For more information on creating messages, see "Text & Multimedia Messages" on page 48. Go To The Go To option allows you to quickly launch a menu item. Activate voice recognition by pressing and holding .
Press for Sensitivity. Press the navigation key up or down to select Reject More, Recommended, or Reject Less and press the left soft key for OK. If you select Reject More, your phone will require a more exact sound match and if you select Reject Less, your phone will require a less exact sound match.
Changing Voice Dial Prompts By default, your phone provides audio prompts such as “Please say a command”. You can turn these prompts on or off. Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Tools & Apps. Press for Voice Service. Press the left soft key for Settings.
World Clock World Clock displays what time it is in twenty-four different time zones around the world together with one or more major cities, states, regions, or countries in a time zone. Display World Clock (Menu Press the navigation key up/left, or down/right to display the different time zones.
Phone Settings With the Phone Settings (Menu ), you can customize your phone’s display, sound and other settings to your suit your preference. Sounds Ringers Different ringer types help you identify incoming calls and messages. With the Ringers options (Menu ), you can assign ringer types to individual Contacts entries, types of calls, schedules, types of alarms, and types of messages.
Press for Caller ID or for Unknown calls. Press the navigation button up or down to select Single Tones, Ring Tones, Melodies, Vibe Tonz or Downloaded. Press the navigation button up or down to select desired ringer. Press to save and exit. Roam Ringer You can set your phone to provide a normal or a distinctive ringer type when roaming.
Press for Voice Mail, for Text and Multimedia or for Web-Alerts. Press the navigation button up or down to select Single Tones, Ring Tones, Melodies, Vibe Tonz, or Downloaded. Press the navigation button up or down to select desired ringer. Press to save and exit.

Press the navigation key right to increase or left to decrease the volume. Press to save and exit. DTMF Length Your phone offers a number of options for the audible tones that accompany a key press. Voice mail or other automated systems may require long or short time lengths to activate different features.
Volume You can adjust the volume of your phone using either the Menu or the volume keys on the side of your phone. To adjust the ringer volume from the menu: Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Settings. Press for Sounds.
To enable or disable alert sounds: Press the left soft key for Menu. Press for Settings. Press for Sounds. Press for Alerts. Select an option: • for Minute Beep • for Call Connect • for Call Lost • for No Service Select On or Off using the navigation key.
Configure the banner: • Press to Set the location of the banner: Off, Top, or Bottom. • Press to Edit the text of the banner. You can enter up to 14 characters of text. See "Entering Text" on page 23. Changing the Wallpaper Your phone offers options for what you see on the display screens when in Idle mode.
Changing the Incoming Call Settings The Incoming Call options (Menu ) let you specify the image to be displayed for two call types: callers With Caller ID and those with No Caller ID. The respective images are displayed depending on the type of call received. To configure incoming call settings: Press the left soft key for Menu.

Changing the Time and Date Settings The Time and Date settings adjusts how the time and date are displayed on the display screens.

Auto Prepend When enabled, Auto Prepend prefixes any number you dial with the prefix (Auto Prepend #) you configure. For example, if you edit the Auto Prepend number to read *76, and you turn Auto Prepend on, then all phone numbers you dial will begin with *76.
