    Contacting Your Local Cable Service Provider In order to use your cable modem, you need to set up an Internet access account with your local cable service provider.

  • Page 30 Configuring the TCP/IP Protocol on a Windows PC You need to have an Ethernet network interface card (NIC) and the TCP/IP communications protocol installed on your system before you install the cable modem. Follow these instructions to verify that TCP/IP is installed and configured correctly.

NOTE: If you do not currently have a Web browser installed on the computer, you can find the two most popular browsers, Netscape Navigator and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, on the Cable Connections CD included with the modem.
