To prepare to run the Dell Diagnostics, make a working copy of the Dell Diagnostics
Diskette on a blank diskette. Enter the system setup program, confirm your
computer's system configuration information, and enable all its components and
devices (such as ports). Refer to Appendix B, "System Setup Program," for instruc-
tions. Note any changes you make to settings. When you finish running the
diagnostics, you should reenter the system setup program and return the settings to
their original values.

To start the diagnostics, follow these steps:

When you start the diagnostics, the Dell logo screen appears, followed by a message
telling you that the diagnostics is loading.
When the Diagnostics Menu appears, highlight an option and press <Enter> or press
the key that corresponds to the highlighted letter for that option. Table 7-1 describes
the Diagnostics Menu options.

Select Run All Tests or Run Quick Tests to check the operation of all major features of
your computer one time. Select Run Specific Tests to run a specific test or tests one
time by default. If these checks do not reveal a problem, you may also cycle tests as
described in the next subsection, "Cycling the Tests to Catch Intermittent Failures."
