BEFORE REQUESTING SERVICE

If your unit does not work properly check the following before calling a service engineer.
SYMPTOMS
POWER
The Mains lead is not connected.
No power.
Main power (ON) switch is OFF.
TIMER REC button is ON.
Recorder does not work
(TIMER REC indicator is on.)
even though STANDBY
( ) light is on.
Moisture condensation has formed inside recorder.
TV BROADCAST RECEPTION
The Mains lead is disconnected.
Aerial connector is not connected or wires
are broken.
No picture, no sound.
Sub Power ( ) button is off.
Possibly station trouble.
Sound OK, poor picture.
Picture OK, poor sound.
Poor reception.
Poor colour or no colour.
VCR
Recording does not work.
Timer recording does not
START/END time is not correctly.

TIMER REC button is OFF.
Present time is not set correctly.
One-Touch Timer Recording (OTR) is ON.
INDEX mark was not
registered.
Tracking is not adjusted.
Noise bars on screen. Video heads are dirty.
The tape is worn or damaged.
Can not locate INDEX mark.
The tape is worn or damaged.
DVD
The disc is dirty.
The playback picture has
occasional distortion.
It is in fast forward or fast reverse playback.

CAUSE
Possibly station trouble.
Aerial connector is not connected or wires
are broken.
Possibly local interference.

Volume control set at minimum position.

SOLUTION
Connect Mains lead to AC outlet.
Set it to ON.
Set it to OFF.
(TIMER REC indicator is off.)
Wait for a few hours.
Connect the Mains lead to the AC outlet.
Check aerial connections or broken wires.
Press the Sub Power ( ) button.
Try another channel.
Try another channel.
Check aerial connections or broken wires.
Move the aerial away from the source of
interference.
Try another channel.
Move the aerial away from the source of
interference.
Increase (VOLUME) control.
Check aerial connections or broken wires.
Try another channel.
Check aerial connections or broken wires.
Try another channel.
Move the aerial away from the source of
interference.
Adjust the colour settings.
Place an adhesive tape over the gap.
Set main power to ON.
Set the clock.
Set the START/END time correctly.
Set the TIMER REC button to ON.
Set the present time correctly.
After OTR recording, set the timer recording.
Let the tape run for a couple of seconds
before recording the first INDEX mark.
Adjust the TRACKING control.
Clean the video heads.
Try another tape.
Try another tape.
Eject the disc and clean it.
Some times a small amount of picture
distortion may appear. This is not a malfunction.
