Accessing the Gigabit Ethernet switch module command-line
interface
To connect to the Gigabit Ethernet switch module using Telnet, complete the
following steps:
1. Open a console window.
2. From the CLI prompt, type telnet x and press Enter.
Where x is the IP address for your Gigabit Ethernet switch module.
3. Enter your password. If you do not have an assigned password, enter the
default password (PASSW0RD, where 0 is a zero) and press Enter.
Note: Capital letters are required; these fields are both case-sensitive. To
increase system security, change the password after you log on for
the first time.
Configuring the Gigabit Ethernet switch module using the
serial-port interface
The serial port provides basic communication RS-232 serial-data-transfer using
a terminal emulation program (such as Hyperterminal). Since messages from
the Power On Self Test (POST) and all initialization information is routed
through the serial port, you can use the serial port to log into the Gigabit
Ethernet switch module and access and configure the internal switching
software.
To log into the Gigabit Ethernet switch module, complete the following steps
1. Remove the information panel concealing the serial port on the Gigabit
Ethernet switch module.
2. Plug an RS-232 serial cable into the switch-module serial port.
