Adjust the Top Thread Tension

• Choose the Correct Tension

For Straight Stitch:
The ideal straight stitch will have threads locked between

the two layers of fabric, as shown left (magnified to show
detail).
If you look at the top and bottom of the seam, you will
notice that there are no gaps; that each stitch is smooth
and even.
When adjusting top thread tension, the higher the
number, the tighter the top thread.
Results depend on;

• Tension is too tight

The bobbin thread shows through on the right side of the
fabric and it will feel bumpy.
Turn the dial to the left to loosen the top thread tension.

• Tension is too loose

The top thread shows through on the wrong side of the
fabric and it will feel bumpy.
Turn the dial to the right to tighten the top thread tension.
