– on a desktop or laptop computer...
Some things are just easier to do on a real computer.  We suggest you complete
the steps in this section on a laptop or desktop computer.

Create a Google account

To set up a personal Google/Gmail account:
Go to
http://mail.google.com
Select the Create an Account button and
complete the details.
If you already have a personal Google/Gmail account, you can use that to set up
your tablet. Do not use your University of Waikato (staff or student) Gmail account
to set up the tablet; not all Google services are available on your University of
Waikato account.

Set up your University of Waikato student account

Enable your University of Waikato student account by completing the following
steps:
Make sure you have your student ID card.
Go MyWeb™
www.myweb.ac.nz
Select the First Time User link to go to
bin/newuser/newuser
Follow the instructions to find out your username and set a password.
Go back to the MyWeb™ www.myweb.ac.nz, log in and check your
username and password.

Lightwire access

Internet access for all students on campus is via Lightwire. You have free
access to University web pages and some other resources. You also receive
1.5GB of free data per month (on a use-it or lose-it basis) and can purchase
additional top-ups at $5 per GB at

When asked, log into Lightwire with your University of Waikato student
email account (username@students.waikato.ac.nz).
You will automatically get your free 1.5GB monthly allowance.
On campus, you can use the internet on desktop computers or via the wireless
network on your laptop, tablet or smartphone.
