Troubleshooting

Use this chart to help you solve daily operational problems. If there is any problem you cannot solve, contact your JVC
service center.
PROBLEM
"NO SURRBACK" appears on the
display when you have tried to use 7.1-
channel reproduction mode.
Expected surround effect cannot be
obtained.
No sound from the speakers.
Continuous hissing or buzzing during
FM reception.
Occasional cracking noise during FM
reception.
Noise is heard during record playing.
Howling during record playing.
"OVERLOAD" starts flashing on the
display.
The STANDBY lamp goes off after
turning on the power, but soon the
receiver turns off again (into standby
mode).
Remote control does not work.
Remote control does not work properly.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
The "SPEAKER 2" setting is set to "BI-AMP
OUT" on the SPEAKER 2 submenu.
The "SURR BACK SP" setting is set to
"NONE."
Speakers are deactivated on the SPEAKER
SETTING submenu.
Speaker signal cables are not connected
properly.
The SPEAKERS 1 and SPEAKERS 2 buttons
are not set correctly.
Incorrect source is selected.
Muting is activated.
Incorrect input mode (analog or digital) is
selected.
Connections are incorrect.
Incoming signal is too weak.
The station is too far away.
An incorrect antenna is used.
Antennas are not connected properly.
Ignition noise from automobiles.
A ground cable of the turntable is not connected
to the screw marked (H).
Your turntable is too close to speakers.
Speakers are overloaded because of high
volume.
Speakers are overloaded because of a short
circuit of the speaker terminals.
Very high voltage or very low voltage is applied
to the unit, or built-in power amplifier becomes
out of order.
The LEARN/TRANSMIT selector is not set
correctly.
The TV operation mode selector is not set
correctly.
Batteries are weak.
Incorrect remote control operation mode is
selected.
SOLUTION
To use the 7.1-channel reproduction mode, set the
"SPEAKER 2" setting to "SPEAKER 2," then
activate the surround back speaker(s).
Select "LARGE" or "SMALL" for the "SURR
BACK SP."
Activate all connected speakers correctly. (See
"How to use the speaker and signal indicators"
on page 20.)
Check speaker wiring and reconnect if
necessary. (See pages 8 to 10.)
Press SPEAKERS 1 and SPEAKERS 2
correctly. (See page 21.)
Select the correct source.
Press MUTING to cancel the mute.
(See page 23.)
Select the correct input mode (analog or digital).
(See page 21.)
Check connections.
For analog connections, see pages 11 to 15.
For digital connections, see pages 12 and 16.
Connect an outdoor FM antenna or contact your
dealer. (See page 7.)
Select a new station.
Check with your dealer to be sure you have the
correct antenna.
Check connections. (See page 7.)
Move the antenna farther from automobile
traffic.
Connect it to the screw marked (H).
Move speakers away from the turntable.
1. Press
(STANDBY/ON) on the front
panel to turn off the receiver.
2. Stop the playback source.
3. Turn on the receiver again, and adjust the
volume.
Press
(STANDBY/ON) on the front panel
to turn off the receiver, check the speaker
wiring, then press it again to turn on the receiver
again. If "OVERLOAD" does not disappear
despite speaker wiring not being short-circuited,
consult your dealer.
Press
(STANDBY/ON) on the front panel
to turn off the receiver. After unplugging the
AC power cord, consult your dealer.
Set the selector correctly either to
"TRANSMIT."
Set the selector correctly either to "TV" or to
"CATV/DBS."
Replace batteries. (See page 17.)
Select the correct remote control operation
mode. (See pages 61 to 70.)
