ENGINE OIL GRANGE
AND VISCOSITY RECOMMENDATIONS
The above chart will serve as a guide in selecting the proper
oil viscosity. The proper oil viscosity helps assure good cold
starting characteristics by reducing friction, thus increasing
cranking speed.
NOTE: When changing oil during the Fall and Winter seasons,
consider the lowest anticipated temperature for the next 60
days. If the temperature is expected to be occasionally below
0°F., 10W oil is recommended. Where the temperature is
frequently below zero, 5W or 5W-20 oil is recommended. SAE
5W oil is not recommended for sustained high speed driving.
OH filter replacement
A full-flow type oil filter is used on the Cadillac engine. It is
recommended that it be replaced at the engine oil change near-
est a 6,000 mile interval or every six months, whichever occurs
first. The filter change should be performed with an oil change.
ENGINE OIL
Your Cadillac engine requires four quarts of oil on a refill after
the crankcase has been drained. One additional quart is re-
quired when the oil filter is changed. It is normal to add some
oil before the drain period. Requirements will vary, depending
on the type of driving you do, but the addition of one quart
each 800 to 1,000 miles would not be considered excessive.
