Flashing the BIOS
WARNING: Before working inside your computer, read the safety

CAUTION: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a
wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal
surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).
CAUTION: Only a certiied service technician should perform repairs on
your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell™
is not covered by your warranty.
CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main
battery (see "Removing the Battery Pack" on page 11) before working
inside the computer.
If a BIOS up rade CD is provided with the new system board, lash the BIOS from
the CD. If you do not have a BIOS up rade CD, lash the BIOS from the hard drive.
Flashing the BIOS from a CD
1. Ensure that the AC adapter is plu
installed properly.
NOTE: If you use a BIOS up rade CD to lash the BIOS, set up the computer
to boot from a CD before insertin the CD.
2. Insert the BIOS up rade CD, and restart the computer.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. he computer continues
to boot and updates the new BIOS. When the lash update is complete, the
computer will automatically reboot.
3. Press <F2> durin POST to enter the system setup pro ram.
4. Select the Exit menu.
5. Select Load Setup Defaults to reset the computer defaults.
6. Remove the BIOS up rade CD from the drive.
7. Select Exit Savin Chan es to save coni uration chan es.
8. he BIOS up rade inishes and the computer restarts automatically.
