Loading a tape cartridge

For best results, use only IBM recommended data and cleaning cartridges. For a
current list of IBM recommended media, go to http://www.ibm.com/support and
searching for "MIGR-39931".
Note: The IBM 160/320 GB DLTV4 internal tape drive cannot write to a DLTtape
VS1 tape that has been previously written to by a DLT VS160 tape drive.
To load a tape cartridge, complete the following steps:
1. Make sure that the tape drive is turned on.
2. Make sure that the write-protect switch on the tape cartridge is correctly set
3. Grasp the tape cartridge so that the write-protect switch faces you.
4. Insert the tape cartridge into the tape load compartment. The tape drive pulls in

the tape cartridge, and the ready LED flashes while the tape cartridge is being
loaded. When the tape cartridge is loaded, the ready LED stops flashing.
Note: If the tape cartridge is already in the unload position (partially ejected)
and you want to reload it, remove the cartridge and then insert it again. If the
tape cartridge is already loaded and you have turned off the power, turn on the
power again. The tape cartridge is reloaded.
Description
A write or read error has occurred. Clean the tape drive
and retry the operation. If the problem continues,
replace the tape cartridge and retry the operation. If the
problem continues, replace the tape drive. See
"Removing a tape drive" on page 15 for more
information.
A mechanical error has occurred. Turn the server off and
on. Retry the operation. If the problem continues,
replace the tape drive. See "Removing a tape drive" on
page 15 for more information.
An internal firmware error has occurred. Turn the server
off and on. Retry the operation. If the problem continues,
replace the tape drive. See "Removing a tape drive" on
page 15 for more information.
