POSSIBLE CAUSES
No steam.
Machine has not reached
operating temperature.
Water tank is empty.
Water tank is not fully
inserted and locked into
position.
Machine needs to be
decalcifi ed.
Steam wand is blocked.
STEAM/HOT WATER
dial is not in the STEAM
position.
Cups not pre-heated.
Coffee not hot
enough.
Portafi lter not pre-heated.
Milk not hot enough
(if making a cappuccino or
latté etc).
Machine needs to be
decalcifi ed.

WHAT TO DO
Allow time for the machine to
reach operating temperature.
The STEAM/HOT WATER
light will fl ash to indicate the
machine is heating to create
steam. During this time,
condensed water may purge
from the steam wand. This is
normal. When the STEAM/
HOT WATER light stops
fl ashing the steam wand is
ready for use.
Fill tank.
Push water tank down
completely to lock into place.
Refer to 'Decalcifying', page 28.
Refer to 'Cleaning the Steam
Wand', page 30.
Ensure the STEAM/HOT
WATER dial is completely
rotated to the STEAM position.
Rinse cups under hot water
outlet and place on cup
warming tray.
Rinse portafi lter under hot
water outlet. Dry thoroughly.
Heat milk until base of the jug
becomes hot to touch.
Refer to 'Decalcifying', page 28.

coarsely.

pre-ground coffee

be blocked.
Single Wall fi lter baskets
are being used with
pre-ground coffee.
Drip tray fi lls
Auto purge feature. Water is
automatically released into
too quickly.

and hot water functions to
ensure the thermocoil is at
the optimal temperature for
extracting espresso.
WHAT TO DO
Tamp between 30–40lbs or
15–20kg of pressure.
Use slightly fi ner grind. Refer
to 'Setting the Grind Size',
page 13 and 'Under Extraction',
page 25.
If grinding fresh whole coffee
beans, buy freshly roasted
coffee with a "roasted on"
date and use within 2 weeks
of this date.
If using pre-ground coffee, use
within a week of grinding.
Use the pin on the end of
the provided cleaning tool
to unblock the hole(s). If
the hole(s) remain blocked,
dissolve a cleaning tablet in
hot water and soak fi lter basket
and portafi lter in solution for
approx. 20 minutes. Rinse
thoroughly.
Ensure you use Dual Wall fi lter
baskets with pre-ground coffee.
No action required as this
is the normal operation of
the machine.
