Advanced Settings

The Advanced Settings menu offers options
for configuring how the RedAlert2 will
record images, and how these images will
be presented on a television. To access the
Advanced Settings menu:
Press
, and using the LEFT/RIGHT buttons,
navigate to ADVANCED SETTINGS.
Photo Quality / Video Quality
The RedAlert2 has selectable quality settings. You can record still images in HIGH,
STANDARD or LOW QUALITY. You can record movies in D1 or QVGA QUALITY.
For video: D1 quality will record a full-frame analog TV signal at 720 x 480 (NTSC)
or 720 x 576 (PAL) pixels, whilst QVGA will record an image with half the vertical
and horizontal resolution (at 360 x 240 (NTSC) or 360 x 288 (PAL) pixels).
For photos: LOW QUALITY conserves space
on your SD card at the expense of image
quality. The upside of LOW QUALITY is that
you can store many more images/videos on
your SD card – though these recordings will
not look as clear as those recorded in HIGH
QUALITY. STANDARD QUALITY offers a
balance between these two concerns.
To change your QUALITY settings:
From the ADVANCED SETTINGS menu, select PHOTO or MOVIE QUALITY.
Choose the quality setting you would like, and press
Select EXIT to leave the menu and save your changes.
TV Output Standard
The RedAlert2 can output two different forms of television signal, PAL or NTSC.
NTSC is used in the USA, Canada and Japan, whereas PAL is used in parts of
Western Europe and Australia. If this setting is wrong (eg. using PAL in the USA or
NTSC in Australia) then the display from the RedAlert2 will be black and white and
possibly distorted, or simply blank. Don't change this setting, unless you're having
problems viewing images from the RedAlert2.
File Overwrite
Whilst File Overwrite is enabled, the RedAlert2 will automatically erase old
recordings when your SD card fills up to allow space for new recordings. Whilst it
is disabled, if the SD card fills up, then the RedAlert2 will not be able to record any
additional events.
