Move the shift lever to the F
(forward) position. Loosen the
neutral start cable lock nut and
disconnect the neutral start cable.

Unscrew the three flange bolts and
remove the recoil starter assembly.
4.
Set the controls the same as for
normal starting (see pages
49
). Use the choke and fast idle
controls if needed.
Turn the ignition switch key to the
ON position.
5.
Set the knotted end of the
emergency starter rope in the notch
in the flywheel. Wind the rope
clockwise around the flywheel, as
shown.

Pull the emergency starter rope
slowly until resistance is felt, then
pull briskly.

Keep away from moving parts
while pulling the rope.
If necessary, rewind the rope and
pull again. If the engine does not
start after several attempts, refer to
