Raised Hearth Extension Framing
WARNING! Risk of Fire. A raised hearth extension built
fl ush with the fi replace opening (Figure 11.3) or less than
4 in. (102 mm) below the fi replace opening requires the
fi replace be installed on a non-combustible surface.
The hearth framing must be constructed of non-combus-
tible materials (Figure 11.2) and placed on 1/2 in. Micore,
or equivalent material (Figure 11.4). When creating the
platform, allow for the thickness of the non-combustible
fi nishing materials (Figure 11.5).
IMPORTANT! Hear th extension design must be
determined before installation of fi replace.
