Transponder Communications with SE485 Bus
Symptoms
All Transponders on one bus
in communications failure.
High Communications Error
Count.
Single Transponder in
communication failure.
Transponder Communication With ProxLink Radio
Symptoms
Communication failures from
all Transponders.
Probable Cause
A.
Power to SE485.
B.
Wire between SE485 and
Transponder incorrectly
installed.
C. Open, short or grounded
cable from SE485 to first
splice or Transponder.
D. Wrong cable between SE485
and computer.
E.
Bad SE485 module.
F.
Using third party RS-485
Interface
A.
Wire between SE485 and
Transponder incorrectly
installed.
B.
Wrong wire type. (See
Section 0.)
A.
Transponder not on.
B.
Wrong Transponder address.
C. RS-232/SE485 switch
position.
D. SE485 wiring on
Transponder.

A.
Loss of power.

Possible Solution
A.
Check 9 VDC adapter for proper voltage. Red
Power LED should be ON (on SE485).
B.
Check to make sure transmit from
Transponder goes to receive of SE485 and
receive from Transponder goes to transmit on
SE485
(RX+ to TX+, RX- to TX-).
C. Use VOM to test cable for short, open or
ground. Repair or replace cable. Also check
for + - pair reversed.
D. Cable should be a straight through to your
computer serial port connection. Do not use
null modem cable or cable marked for printer.
E.
Replace SE485 module.
F.
Due to changes made for transient protection,
transformer isolation, and link busy detection,
these signals are not compatible with third
party RS485 Interfaces. Replace with SE485
A.
Check to make sure transmit from
Transponder goes to receive of SE485 and
receive from Transponder goes to transmit on
SE485
(RX+ to TX+, RX- to TX-).
B.
Wire type must be twisted pair.
A.
Check power switch.
B.
Check dip switch setting on Transponder to
correspond with your Transponder data base
setting.
C. Check slide switch on Transponder to make
sure it is in the SE485 position.
D. Check to make sure transmit from
Transponder goes to receive of SE485 and
receive from Transponder goes to transmit on
SE485
(RX+ to TX+, RX- to TX-).
E.
Power down Transponder and restart. If this
does not work replace Transponder.
F.
Replace Transponder.
Possible Solution
A.
Check power to ProxLink from central
console. Also, if using SE485, check power to
SE485 module.
B.
Must use 25 to 9 pin cable supplied from
Proxim.
C. Unplug power to ProxLink and plug back in to
re-start ProxLink.
