G eneral D iscussion about H D D Installation
Installing a hard disk:
In the
Standard CM OS Setup M enu
Primary means the first co nnecto r o n the mainbo ard, that is,
co nnecto r ID E 1 o n o ur mainbo ard.
Seco ndary means the seco nd co nnecto r o n the mainbo ard, that is,
co nnecto r ID E 2 o n o ur mainbo ard.
T w o H D D s can be co nnected to the each co nnecto r:
T he first H D D is referred to as M aster,
T he seco nd H D D is referred to as Slave.
T he M aster or Slave status of the hard disk drive is set on the hard
disk itself. R efer to the hard disk drive m anual.
Installing one HDD :
B e sure that yo ur hard disk drive is set at M aster. Actually, mo st hard
disk drives are set at M aster as a default, so yo u do n't need to adjust
any setting. Just co nnect o ne end o f the 40 pin cable o n the drive
co nnecto r, and the o ther end to co nnecto r ID E 1 o n the mainbo ard.
Installing one HDD + one CD-ROM drive:
M etho d 1: Set the H D D at M aster, and the C D -R O M drive at Slave.
M etho d 2: Set the H D D as M aster and co nnect o ne end o f the 40-pin
The red line on the connection cable m us t be lined up with pin 1 on the connector.
C o nnect o ne co nnecto r o f the 40-pin cable to the hard disk,
ano ther o ne to the C D -R O M drive, and the o ther end to
co nnecto r ID E 1 o n the mainbo ard.

Y o u can igno re the setting o f the C D -R O M drive, just

W e reco mmend yo u use this kind o f co nnectio n, w hich has
no influence o n H D D speed.
