B. Installing Firestops and Horizontal Termination Cap

• Ensure fl ue components are locked together correctly.
• Pipe may separate if not properly joined.
For Horizontal Runs - Wall shield fi restops are RE-
QUIRED on both sides of a combustible wall through which
the fl ue passes.
NOTE: Model SLK-01TRD does not need an exterior
wall shield fi restop on an exterior combustible wall
as the shield is built into this termination cap assem-
bly.
To install wall shield fi restops for horizontal runs that pass
through either interior or exterior walls:
Cut a 254 mm x 254 mm hole for SL-D-series pipe. The
center of the framing hole is 254 mm above the center of
the horizontal fl ue pipe.
• Position the wall shield fi restops on both sides of the
hole previously cut and secure the wall shield fi restops
with nails or screws.
• The heat shields of the wall shield fi restops MUST BE
placed towards the top of the hole.
• Continue the fl ue run through the wall shield fi restops.

combustibles between fi restops.
• ALWAYS maintain specifi ed clearances around venting
and fi restop systems.
• Install fi restops as specifi ed.
Failure to keep insulation or other material away from fl ue
pipe may cause fi re.
Installing the Horizontal Termination Cap
Flue termination must not be recessed in the wall. Siding
may be brought to the edge of the cap base.
Flash and seal as appropriate for siding material at outside
edges of cap.
WARNING
Do NOT connect a pipe section to a termination cap without using
the telescoping fl ue section found on the termination cap.
Note: Where required, an exterior wall fl ashing is available.
When penetrating a brick wall, a brick extension kit is avail-
able for framing the brick.
