A CAUTION
WATER HEATERS EVENTUALLY LEAK: Installationof the
water heater must be accomplished in sucha mannerthat if
the tank or anyconnections shouldleak, the flow of water will
not causedamageto the s'omcture. When suchlocations can-
not be avoided, a suitable drain pan shouldbe installed under
the water heater Drain pansare available at your localSears
store. Sucha drain pan must be not greater than 1½inches
deep,havea minimum length and width of at least 2 inches
greaterthan the water heater dimensions and must be piped
to an adequatedrain.The panmustnot restrict combustion air
flow.Under no circumstances i s the manufactureror Searsto
be held liablefor any water damage in connectionwith this
water heater.

flammableand explosive.To preventthe possibility of inju_
under these conditions, w e recommend the hot water faucet
be opened for severalminutesat the kitchen sinkbeforeany
electricalapplianceswhichare connected to the hot water sys-
tem are used (suchas a dishwasher or washingmachine). If
hydrogengas is present, there will probably be an unusual
sound similarto air escaping through the pipe asthe hot water
faucet is opened.There must be no smokingor open flame

INSULATING JACKETS: When installingan external water
heater insulation jacketon a gaswater heater:
DO NOT coverthe temperature-pressure r eliefvalve.
DO NOT put insulation over anypart of the top of the gas
water heater.
DO NOT put insulation overthe gascontrolvalveor gascon-
trol valve/burner c over,or anyaccess areasto the burner
DO NOT let insulationaroundthe gaswater heater to get
within 8 inches of the floor(air mustget to the burner).
DO NOT coveror removeoperatinginstructions, and safety
related warning labelsand materials affixed to the water
heater.
