Installing Retail Windows 2000

To install ESS modem support

If you installed retail Windows 2000 and your HP Notebook contains a built-in ESS
modem, you need to install the modem drivers. The drivers are found in the
MODEM\ESS subdirectory.
To install or upgrade the modem driver:
1. Run SETUP.EXE from the MODEM\ESS directory.
2. Click Next.
3. Choose to upgrade the driver and follow the onscreen directions to complete
installation.
4. It's recommended that you reboot the computer after the installation.

To install Lucent Win modem support

If you installed retail Windows 2000 and your HP Notebook contains a built-in Lucent
Win Modem, you need to install the modem drivers. The drivers are found in the
MODEM\LUCENT subdirectory. If you are unsure which modem has been supplied with
your notebook, review README.TXT located in MODEM\LUCENT to determine the
correct modem model.
To install or upgrade the Lucent Win modem drivers:
1. Run SETUP.EXE.
2. Click OK when prompted "Do you want to install the modem driver?".
3. It's recommended that you reboot the computer after the installation.

To install infrared support

If you have installed retail Windows you need to install the infrared driver. The driver is
contained in the FIR directory.
To install or upgrade the infrared driver:
1. First the IR hardware must be enabled in BIOS setup. To enter setup reboot the HP
Notebook, when the HP Invent logo appears it will prompt you to "PRESS F2 TO
SETUP" under the HP logo. Press F2 when prompted.
