Configuring Windows Power Management
You may want to change the default power management settings in Windows XP. The
BIOS Power Management settings are ignored if ACPI is activated.
1. Click Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, then double-click Power
Options.
2. On the Hibernate tab, check Enable Hibernation and click Apply.
3. On the Power Schemes tab, change the "Plugged in" options:
Standby = "after 3 hours"
Hibernate = "after 4 hours"
4. Change the "Running on batteries" options:
Standby = "after 5 mins"
Hibernate = "after 2 hours"
5. On the Advanced tab, select Always Show Icon On The Taskbar.
6. Change the Power buttons options to your desired settings.
7. On the Alarms tab, under Critical Battery Alarm, use the slider to ensure that the
battery alarm will activate when the battery level reaches 5%, then click Apply.
8. Under Critical Battery Alarm, click Alarm Action. Under Alarm Action, select
Hibernate as the action when the alarm goes off and click OK.
9. Click OK to close the properties box.
