CHANGING ENGINE OIL AND OIL
FILTER
Have engine oil changed at an aprilia
Authorised dealer.
Carefully read page 79 (LUBRICANT
CHART), page 39 (MAINTENANCE) and
page 24 (LUBRICANTS).
NOTE
Position the vehicle on firm and
flat ground.
Position the vehicle on the centre stand.
u
WARNING
The engine and the components of the
exhaust system become very hot and
remain hot for some time after the engine
has been stopped. Before handling these
components, wear insulating gloves or
wait until the engine and the exhaust
system have cooled down.

u Stop the engine and let it cool down, in
order to allow the oil to flow into the oil pan
and to cool down.
u Unscrew and extract the plug/dipstick (1).
u Unscrew and remove the oil cartridge filter
(3).
Do not use the vehicle with insufficient
lubrication or with contaminated or
unsuitable lubricants, since this would
cause early wear of the moving parts and
may also cause irreparable failures.
u Unscrew and remove the oil drain plug (4)
and then drain all engine oil.
u Install a new oil cartridge filter (3).
Lubricate the filter O-rings before
installation.
u Screw and tighten the engine oil drain plug
(4).

u Pour engine oil into the filler opening (2),
see page 75 (TECHNICAL DATA).
Screw and tighten the oil dipstick (1).
u
u Start the engine and let it run for several
minutes. Stop the engine and let it cool
down. Check engine oil level using the
dipstick (1) and top up as required without
exceeding the "MAX" mark.
For top-ups and oil changes, use synthetic
oil SAE 5/W -40 type exceeding the API SJ
specification. Always use new oil.
WARNING
Used oil contains substances that are
very dangerous for the environment.
