Corridor function
The corridor function allows the TravelPilot E1/E2 to provide driv-
ing instructions even when the navigation CD is not present in
the drive. This applies to normal navigation as well as to dynamic
navigation.
Surrounding area function
The TravelPilot E1/E2 uses the available memory to load data
from the navigation CD regardless of whether a navigation ses-
sion is currently active or not. These data always relate to the
current position of the vehicle. The system keeps updating this
data for as long as the navigation CD is present in the drive. The
TravelPilot E1/E2 looks up these stored data when you begin
entering a destination. This means that you can enter a destina-
tion even without the CD being present in the drive if the area in
which the destination is located is covered by the data stored in
memory. If the destination is not covered by this data, the system
will ask you to insert the navigation CD.
Optimum route
The calculated route is a combination of a fast route and a short
route. The relationship between these two types of route is deter-
mined by the software of the TravelPilot E1 and cannot be
changed. The TravelPilot E2 allows you to adjust the relationship
between the short and fast route (see " C onfiguring the optimum
route" in the " S etup – basic settings" chapter).
INTRODUCTION
NAVIGATION
TMC - Traffic Message Channel
TMC is an RDS data service that provides regional traffic news.
New traffic reports can be updated without delay.
The TravelPilot E1/E2 is capable of continuously receiving digital
traffic reports free of charge from TMC stations.
GPS - Global Positioning System
This system allows you to determine your position anywhere in
the world be it on land, on water or in the air. The 25 satellites
that are currently in service in orbit at an altitude of 12,500 miles
(20,000 km) make this positioning possible. The system must be
receiving signals from at least 5 satellites in order to provide pre-
cise positioning.
Standby time
To shorten the start-up time of the device' s software, the Travel-
Pilot E1/E2 is configured with a fixed standby time of 30 minutes
after being switched off. If it is switched on again during this time
period, the device will be ready for full operation within a few
seconds.
