Service
1. Neverrun an engineindoors or in a poorlyventilated
area. Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an
odorless,and deadlygas.
2. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertain
the blade(s)and all movingparts havestopped.
Disconnectthe sparkplug wireand groundagainstthe
engineto preventunintendedstarting.
3. Periodically checkto make surethe bladescome to
completestop withinapproximately (5) five seconds
after operatingthe bladedisengagement c ontrol.If the
bladesdo notstop within thethis timeframe,yourunit
shouldbe servicedprofessionally by an authorized
MTDServiceDealer.
4. Checkbrakeoperationfrequentlyas it is subjectedto
wearduring normaloperation.Adjustand serviceas
required.
5. Checkthe blade(s)and enginemountingbolts at
frequentintervals for propertightness.Also,visually
inspectblade(s)for damage(e.g.,excessivewear,
bent, cracked). Replacethe blade(s)with theoriginal
equipmentmanufacturer's (O.E.M.)blade(s)only,
listed inthis manual."Useof partswhich do not meet
the originalequipmentspecificationsmaylead to
improper p erformanceand compromisesafety!"
6. Mowerbladesare sharp.Wrapthe bladeor wear
gloves,and useextra cautionwhenservicingthem.
7. Keepall nuts, bolts,and screwstight to be surethe
equipmentis insafe workingcondition.
8. Nevertamperwith the safety interlocksystemor other
safety devices.Checktheir properoperationregularly.
9. After strikinga foreignobject,stop the engine,
disconnectthe spark plug wire(s)and groundagainst
the engine.Thoroughlyinspectthe machinefor any
damage.Repairthe damagebeforestartingand
operating.
10.Neverattemptto makeadjustmentsor repairsto the
machinewhilethe engine isrunning.
11.Grasscatchercomponents and the discharge
coverare subjectto wearand damagewhich could
exposemovingpartsor allowobjectsto be thrown.
Forsafety protection, f requentlycheckcomponents
and replaceimmediately with originalequipment
manufacturer's (O.E.M.)parts only,listed in this
manual."Useof parts which do not meetthe original
equipmentspecifications may leadto improper
performanceand compromise safety!"
12.Do notchangethe enginegovernorsettingsor
over-speed the engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe
maximumsafe operatingspeedof the engine.
13.Maintainor replacesafety and instructionlabels,as
necessary.
14.Observeproperdisposallawsand regulations for
gas, oil,etc. to protecttheenvironment.
