(lear the menu (page 41), then press the control button • (_.)). The _
(self-timer)
indicator appears on the LCD screen, and about 10 seconds after you press the shutter
button, the subject is recorded.
The self-timer
lamp flashes and the beep sounds after
you press the shutter button until the shutter is released.
To cancel the self-timer
recording,
press the control button • (_..)) again.
The factory setting is auto (no indicator).
In this mode, the flash automatically
strobes when the surroundings
is dark. To change the flash mode, clear the menu
(page 41), then press the control button • ( _ ) repeatedly
so that the flash mode
indicator appears on the LCD screen.
Control button • ( ,_ )
Each time you press the control button • (t_), the indicator changes
as follows.
(INTO indicator)

Forced flash:
The flash strobes regardless
of the surrounding
brightness.
ff_ No flash:
The flash does not strobe.
You can change the brighmess
of the flash with [ _±] (FLASH
LEVEL)
in the menu
settings (page 45).
To reduce
the
red-eye
phenomenon
Set [RED EYE REDU(TION]
to [ON] in the setup settings, the flash strobes before
recording
to reduce the red-eye phenomenon
(page 80). When [ON] is selected,
0
appears on the LCD screen.
Notes
• When [IgO] is set to [AUTO]
in the menu settings
the lecommended
shooting
distance
using
the built-in
flash is 03 m to 3.0 m (117/8
inches to 9 feet 101/8
inches). When it is not set to
[AUTO],
the flash may be inefl'ective
even if the flash level is changed.
• Attaching
a conversion
lens (not supplied)
may block the light flora the flash or cause the lens
shadow to appear.
• You cannot use an external
flash (not supplied)
and the built-in
flash at the same time.
• Red-eye reduction
may not produce
the desired effects depending
on individual
difl'erences,
file
distance
to the subject,
if the subject does not see the p_e-st!obe,
or other conditions
• Red-eye reduction
effects are also diflicult to obtain if you set the stmtta
to a slow speed in the
shutter speed priority mode.
• The flash efl'ect is not obtained
easily when you use tbrced flash in a bright location.
• While charging
the flash, the _ flash charge lamp flashes.
Afta
the charging
is complete,
file
lamp goes out.
