Windows XP operating system is used as an example in these instructions.
If another operating system is used i.e. Windows Me or Windows 2000, some of the displays and procedures will
be different.
Assigning file extensions
For Windows XP
(The display is different in Windows Me or Windows 2000.)

Click [start].

Click [Control Panel].

Click [Appearance and Themes].

Click [Folder Options].

On the View tab, clear the Hide file
extensions for known file types check box.
