The free darning arm is ideal for darning tubular
articles, such as sleeves, trouser legs and socks.
Stitch back and forth across the hole, first lengthwise,
then crosswise.
Remember that "a stitch
in
time saves nine" and reinforce spots that have worn
thin with short
stitches made lengthwise and across worn section at
high speed.

To mend small and medium-size holes, trim
ragged edges with
the fabric grain. First stitch bock and forth across
the hole from
one side to the other with the machine running
at high speed.
Then turn the fabric at right angles and sew back
and forth over
preceding work with short stitches. This anchors
the threads in
the unworn area around the hole.
Triangular tears are best darned with close
stitches made
across and lengthwise.
