16 STARTING
STARTING
Start Engine
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide,
a
colorless, odorless,
poisonous
gas.
Do not operate
the unit in enclosed
areas.
Provide adequate ventilation
at all times.
Engine exhaust may ignite combustible
ma-
terials
and cause a fire.
Keep
the area
around
the exhaust
outlet
clear.
Locate the unit so that the exhaust
outlet points toward
an open area and is
located at least one meter (3.3 feet) from any
obstructions.
NOTE
0 Be aware of the following in order to start the en-
gine easily in cold weather.
O Use proper
oil for temperature
expected
(See
FUEL AND OIL RECOMMENDATIONS
chapter).
Use fresh gasoline.
o Protect the engine or the equipment from direct
exposureto weather when not in operation.
o Before startingthe engine, insure all possible ex-
ternal loads are disconnected.
O Open the fuel valve (A) on the equipment.
O Put the engine switch key intothe engine switch.
For control Panel Switch Type, move the throt-
tle lever on the equipmentto its halfway position.
Moving the lever away from its low speed end
turns ignitk_n on.
O Move the throttle lever to its halfway positionbe-
tween low speed and high speed.
[Associated choke type]
For A Cold Engine - Place the throttle lever (A)
into"CHOKE" position.
For A Warm Engine (normal operating temper-
atures) - Place the throttlelever midway between
"SLOW'and "FAST"positions.
[Separate choke type]
ForA Cold Engine. Place the choke control lever
into"CHOKE" position.
• Alter starting the engine, gradually return the
choke controllever to the fully open position.

• Put the switchkey (A) intothe engine switch.
• Turnthe switchkey tOthe START positionon the
equipment.Usuallyengine willstartwithin 3 sec-
onds.
