Answer question, Do you have a cable box?
If No, proceed
to page 11-3 Step 4, Channel Map-
ping.
If Yes, you may have to turn the cable/converter
box on manually when you want to use the VCR
Plus recording feature.
If yes, is cable box connected
to VCR "ANT IN"?
As mentioned
in Preliminary
Setup, the VCR
must be connected
to the cable/converter
box as
detailed on page 4-3 Figure 2, to be able to
record premium
channels.
2. Enter Your Cable/Converter
Box Output
Channel
Number
The cable/converter box output channel number is
usually 3 or 4; the number could also be 2, 5, or 6.
Note: This number may be printed on the
cable/converter
box back panel or in the
cable/converter
box operating guide. If the num-
ber is not located in either place then call your
cable company and ask them for 'The Cable Box
Output Channel Number."
3. Enter Your MFR Number
Enter your "MFR" number from the list on page
11-3; the system test is automatically initiated and
the cable box should then tune to Channel 59 and
Channel 59 should remain selected.
If the first number does not work, try the other
"MFR" numbers for your cable brand in se-
quence; try the next, then the next etc. If none
work try relocating the cable box and VCR to a
different location or relationship.
If you have suc-
cessfully placed the components,
the cable box
will automatically tune to Channel 59 and Chan-
nel 59 will remain selected.
Note: These MFR numbers were determined by
the Gemstar Corporation
from tests with most
popular cable boxes and then compiled and
presented in list form for manufacturers
who are
employing the VCR Plus technology.
The manufacturer's
name could be printed some-
where on your cable/converter
box. Locate the
name in the MFR Number List on page 11-3 and
write down the 1 or 2 digit MFR number on a
sheet of paper. Some manufacturers
may have
more than one number. Write down all the MFR
numbers for your particular cable/converter
box
manufacturer.
One of these MFR numbers may
be accepted to program the VCR to send the sig-
nal that will control your cable box. If your cable
box does not have a manufacturer's
name, call
your cable company and ask for "the Cable Box
Manufacturer's
Name."If none of these numbers
work enter 99 for the MFR number; the VCR
will not control the cable box.
New MFR Numbers
The MFR Number List on page 11-3 is a current
listing of all available MFR numbers to date. If
your cable/converter
box does not tune to Chan-
nel 59, perhaps a newly created MFR number
will work that has not yet been published. In this
case try entering all MFR numbers starting with
number 1 and continue through MFR number 83
to see if the cable box will tune to Channel 59,
and have Channel 59 remain selected.
