In position P or N, control indicator
illuminates red in the selector lever
indicator strip, and the selector lever is
blocked.
To engage P or R, push button on selector
lever.
The engine can only be started with lever in
position P or N. When position N is selected,
press foot brake or engage hand brake
before starting.
Do not accelerate during the selection
procedure.
If the transmission fluid temperature is less
than -25 °C, the selector lever cannot be
moved until the fluid temperature reaches
-25 °C with the engine running (P or N
flashes in the transmission display for as
long as the selector lever is locked).

ActiveSelect (manual mode)

Shift the selector lever from D first to the left
and then forward or rearward.

Shift to a higher gear

Shift to a lower gear
If a higher gear is selected at too low a
speed or a lower gear selected at too high
a speed, there is no change. This avoids
revs that are too low or too high.
If the engine speed is too slow, the
transmission automatically shifts to a lower
gear, but not if the gear was selected
below a certain speed.
If a higher gear is selected below a certain
speed a downshift does not take place.
When engine speed is high, there is no
automatic shift to a higher gear.
For reasons of safety, Kickdown also
functions in manual mode – see page 182.
The selected gear is shown in the
transmission display – see page 179.
