On self-propelled models, releasing wheel
drive c ontrol must stop m ower's forward
movement. Ifthis feature fails tooperate,
disconnect spark plug w ire and repair before
using u nit.
On self-propelled models, wheel drive m ust
be disengaged when s tarting engine.

Chock wheels ifparking onaslope.
Mow across the face ofslopes, never upand
down. Be especially cautious when c hanging
direction onslopes.
This product isequipped with aninternal
combustion engine. DO NOT u se onornear
any unimproved, forest orbrush covered land
unless the exhaust system i sequipped with a
spark arrestor meeting applicable local, state
orfederal laws. Aspark arrestor, ifused,
must bemaintained ineffective working order
by the operator. See your Ariens Dealer or
engine manufacturer's service center.

Allow e ngine tocool before filling f uel
tank.
Never fillcontainers inside avehicle orona
truck o rtrailer bed with aplastic liner. Always
place c ontainers onthe ground away f rom
your vehicle before filling.
When p ractical, remove gas-powered
equipment from the truck o rtrailer and refuel
itonthe ground. Ifthis isnot p ossible, then
refuel such e quipment onatrailer with a
portable container, rather than from a
gasoline dispenser nozzle.
Keep the nozzle incontact with the rim ofthe
fuel tank o rcontainer opening atall t imes until
fueling iscomplete. Do not u se anozzle lock-
open d evice.
Check fuel supply before starting engine.
DO NOT f illgasoline tank indoors, when
engine isrunning, orwhile e ngine ishot.
Allow e ngine tocool several minutes before
removing fuel cap.
DO NOT o verfill. Allow a bout 1/4" ( 6mm) of
tank s pace for f uel e xpansion.
Replace gasoline tank c ap securely and
clean a ny spilled fuel b efore starting engine.
Iffuel isspilled onclothing, change clothing
immediately.
NEVER store f uel inside where there i san
open f lame, such a sawater heater.
ALWAYS drain f uel outdoors away from
ignition sources.
ALWAYS shut offand remove key, engine
when t ransporting unit o natruck o rtrailer.
Avoid E lectric Shock. DO NOT d isconnect
wire from spark plug w hile e ngine isrunning.
Do NOT p ut b attery infire ormutilate.
Explosive Gases!
NO flames, NO sparks, NO smoking, near
battery.
Poisonous battery fluid contains sulfuric acid.
Contact with skin, eyes o rclothing can cause
severe chemical burns.
ALWAYS wear safety glasses and protective
gear n ear battery.
ALWAYS keep b atteries out o freach of
children.
Battery posts, terminals and related
accessories contain lead a nd lead
compounds, chemicals known tothe State of
California tocause cancer and reproductive
harm. Wash hands after handling.
Charge batteries inanopen, well-ventilated
area, away from spark and flames. Unplug
charger before connecting ordisconnecting
battery. Wear protective clothing and use
insulated tools.
Accidental engine start up can cause death or
serious injury. Except where specifically
recommended, ALWAYS stop e ngine,
remove key (electric start models), wait for
moving parts t ostop, allow parts t ocool and
disconnect spark plug w ire before inspecting,
servicing, adjusting orrepairing unit.
Keep mower free ofgrass, leaves, orother
debris build-up.
Keep equipment ingood c ondition.
Maintain orreplace safety and instruction
labels, as necessary.
Follow e ngine manufacturer's safety
instruction when s ervicing engine.
Check allhardware atregular intervals,
especially blade attachment bolts. Keep all
hardware properly tightened.
