The Best WAN Value
The SuperStack II NETBuilder SI
platforms deliver today's best overall
WAN value with built-in, easy-to-use IP
firewalls that provide secure LAN-to-
WAN traffic as well as protection from
Internet intrusion. Predictable system
performance, robust multiprotocol
routing, and integrated telecommu-
nications functionality make the
SuperStack II NETBuilder SI devices
the most cost-effective, complete
regional office solution for changing
wide area networking needs in a secure
environment.
The platforms can either be used as a
remote office connection or as a central
site solution in combination with
3Com OfficeConnect
®
NETBuilder
routers in remote branch offices.
Cost-Effective Flexibility
with Telco Interface Modules
The SuperStack II NETBuilder SI
platforms have all the functionality you
need right from the day you purchase
them. When your network require-
ments change, or you want to change
WAN services, you can easily and
affordably convert the existing interface
by replacing the telco modules.
The SuperStack II NETBuilder SI
ISDN U module provides an integrated
solution for ISDN U interfaces by
automatically converting an S/T base
unit to ISDN U without the need for
additional exterior hardware.
Flexible Modules
The SuperStack II NETBuilder SI
56/64 Kbps DSU/CSU module plugs
directly into the telco port of the S/T
base device, providing an integrated
DSU/CSU solution. The module is
standards-based to ensure interoper-
ability with a wide range of vendors'
equipment.
The SuperStack II NETBuilder SI
FT1/T1 DSU/CSU module plugs
directly into the telco port of the S/T
base device, providing an integrated
FT1/T1 DSU/CSU solution. The
module is standards-based to ensure
interoperability with a wide range of
vendors' equipment.
Enterprise OS Software
Features
3Com's Enterprise OS software
provides wide-ranging support for inter-
networking on all NETBuilder
platforms and PathBuilder tunnel
switches with standards-based features
and functionality.
The SuperStack II NETBuilder SI
platforms support bridging and
multiprotocol routing (IP, IPX,
AppleTalk, SNA) over Frame Relay,
PPP, ISDN, leased and dial lines
(Sync and Async), X.25 and
SMDS.
Bandwidth Grooming and data
compression features reduce WAN
bandwidth utilization and packet
transmission time, dramatically
reducing usage fees. Features
include data prioritization to orga-
nize traffic into high-medium-low
transmission priority queues, band-
width aggregation to bundle
available links into one flexible
pipe, and protocol reservation to
assign a fixed percentage of the
available bandwidth to a particular
protocol or traffic type.
Resource Reservation Protocol
(RSVP) provides dynamic quality
of service (QoS) for outbound
traffic on PPP and Frame Relay
virtual ports.
Auto-dial backup and disaster
recovery features, such as dial on
demand (DOD), bandwidth on
demand (BOD) and Virtual Router
Redundancy Protocol (VRRP)
ensure network reliability and cost-
effective WAN management.
The platforms offer a complete
legacy solution for even the most
complex IBM environments, inte-
grating multiple types of SNA/legacy
devices onto a TCP/IP backbone with
comprehensive legacy features such as
SDLC, Data Link Switching, IBM
NetView support, Binary Synchronous
Communications (BSC) conversion
and QLLC conversion.
Robust Security
The platforms provide robust network
security with built-in ICSA-certified IP
firewalls at every network interface. The
firewall includes easy-to-use predefined
filters to guard against a number of
common intrusions. You can also define
your own filters and use the on-board
traffic simulator to send test packets
through the firewall to confirm the con-
figuration's security.
For additional security, the platforms
support NAT which gives private
TCP/IP networks Internet connectivity
without reconfiguring end stations with
publicly registered IP addresses. This
not only alleviates the administrative
burden, but also conceals the internal
address structure from public view, pre-
venting direct access to an inside host.
In addition, NAT provides address
redirection and load balancing of TCP
traffic, smoothing integration with
the Internet.
