BELT REPLACEMENT
NOTE:Toaid in reassembly, n otethe orientationof the drivebelton
the two idlerpulleysand theengineflywheelpulleypriorto performing
the followingsteps. Referto Figure17.
Theedger drivebelt is subjectto wearand shouldbe replacedif any
signsof cracking,shreddingor rottingare present.Toreplacethe belt,
proceedas follows:
1.
Workingin front of theedger,loosentheflangelock nut on top of
frame,allowingthe idlerpulleyassemblyto pivot slightlyout from
the frame.See Figure17.

With yourotherhand,carefullyreachunderthe rear of the edger
and removethe belt fromaround theengineflywheelpulley.See
Figure17.
Removethe spindlesheavesbelt guardby removingthe two
self-tappingscrewswhich secureit to the blade plateassembly.

Carefullyremovethe beltfrom off of the pulleys,again making
sureto notethe orientation of the belt. Discardthe belt. See
Figure18.
5.
Workingfromthe front of the edger,placethe beltonto the spindle
sheaves,routeit backonto the topand bottomidlerpulleys,and
then placeitontothe engineflywheelpulley.
NOTE:Makecertainthat the "V" sideof the beltisseatedintothetop
pulleyand the flat side of the beltis seatedintothe bottompulley.See
Figure18.
6.
Reinstall t he spindlesheavesbeltguardwith the self tapping
screwsremoved earlier.
7.
Makecertainthat the drivebelt is on the engineflywheelpulley
and idler pulleys,and retightentheflange lock nuton thetop of
the frame.
NOTE:Makecertainthat the drive beltis seatedcorrectlyand that it
is ridingsmoothlyon the spindlesheavesand is notpinchedbetween
them. Repeatthe firstthree stepsif the belt is pinched.
