BELT REPLACEMENT
Drive Belt
NOTE:Toaid in reassembly, n otethe orientationof the drivebelton
thetwo idlerpulleysand the engine flywheelpulleypriorto performing
thefollowingsteps.Referto Figure9.
Theedger drivebelt is subjectto wearand shouldbe replacedif any
signsof cracking,shreddingor rottingare present.To replacethebelt,
proceedas follows:
1.
Workingin front of the edger,loosenthe flangelock nuton topof
frame,allowingthe idlerpulleyassemblyto pivot slightlyout from
theframe.See Figure11.

Withyour otherhand,carefullyreachunderthe rear of the edger
and removethe belt from aroundthe engineflywheelpulley.See
Figure11.

Removethe spindlesheavesbelt guardby removing the two
self-tappingscrewswhich secureitto the blade plateassembly.

Carefullyremovethebelt from off of the pulleys,again making
sureto notetheorientationof the belt. Discardthe belt. See
Figure12.

Workingfromthe front of the edger,placethe belt ontothe spindle
sheaves,routeit back ontothetop and bottomidler pulleys,and
then placeit ontothe engineflywheelpulley.
NOTE:Makecertainthat the "V" sideof thebelt isseatedintothe top
pulleyand the flat side of the beltisseated intothe bottompulley.See
Figure12.

Reinstall t he spindlesheavesbeltguard withthe self tapping
screws removed earlier.
7.
Makecertainthat the drivebelt is on the engineflywheelpulley
and idlerpulleys,and retightenthe flangelock nuton thetop of
the frame.
NOTE:Makecertainthat the drivebelt is seatedcorrectlyand that it
is ridingsmoothlyon the spindlesheavesand is notpinchedbetween
them. Repeatthe firstthree stepsifthe belt ispinched.
