7 Installing Additional Processors

Introduction

This chapter tells how to install processors in the HP NetServer LXr 8000.
The HP NetServer has four processor slots on its processor baseboard, and comes
standard with one processor installed and terminators in the other three slots.
The server supports 400 Mhz Pentium II Xeon processors with 512K or 1 MB
caches. (The server will support 450 Mhz Pentium II Xeon processors with 512k,
1 MB, or 2MB caches, when the processors become available.)
NOTE
When the HP NetServer LXr 8000 is configured with multiple
processors, all the processors must have the same frequency,
stepping, and cache size.
When you install an additional processor, you must also install one or more
additional voltage regulator modules (VRMs) on the CPU baseboard.

Tools Required

These tools are required for removal and installation of accessories:
An anti-static service kit (3M
includes a static-dissipating work surface, a chassis clip lead, and a wrist
strap.
T-15 Torx driver.

Verify Contents of Upgrade Kit

CAUTION Do not remove the processor from its bag until you are ready
to install it. Make sure the bag remains sealed. The CPU
chips are sensitive to humidity, so desiccant has been packed
in the bag containing the processor board. When the
processor board has been installed and the HP NetServer is
running, the chips are no longer sensitive to humidity.
