2.2. Configuration
of the Windows
2000 Server
After installing the Windows 2000 server version, users
should use the server wizard to setup a working DHCP server
(go to Start>Programs>Administrative
Tools>Configure your server). Users need to define a
DHCP scope - a range of IP addresses the server allocates to
clients. The following scope will be used here: 192.168.1.5
up to 192.168.1.254
The PXE/RIS server has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.1
The PC's server name is W2KSRV. It also happens to be a
DNS server (primary server), primary domain controller
(domain name is domain.local) and is running Microsoft
Active Directory (since it is required for the RIS server, the PXE
server was configured to meet both requirements.)
Users do not need to configure the DNS controller, domain
controller and Active Directory to evaluate PXE deployment.
