Use Table 3-1 to troubleshoot operating system problems.

Problem
Operating system locks
up.
Errors are displayed in
the error log.
IBM Token-Ring
drivers do not load.
The operating system
does not load, and it
was installed using
SmartStart.
The operating system

was factory installed.

Possible Solution
Scan for viruses with an updated virus scan
utility.
Follow the information provided in the error log,
and refer to your operating system
documentation.
For the first node of the ring, you must set the
speed of the network interface controller. Refer to
the documentation provided with the network
interface controller drivers.
Run the server setup utility.

Be sure that you are following the
instructions in the Factory-Installed
Operating System Software User Guide
provided for your operating system.
2.
If all instructions have been followed and a
problem still exists, note at which phase the
installation stops loading.
Is the server in the process of booting?
During the installation, the server restarts
several times.
Did you power down the server at any time
during the installation process? If so, you
must restart using the SmartStart CD.
