PLAYBACK
Downmixing to 2 channels
You can enjoy 2-channel stereo playback even from multi-
channel sources.
Rotate PROGRAM (or press AMP to select the
AMP mode, then press STEREO on the remote
control) to select 2ch Stereo.

You can use a subwoofer with this program when SWFR or
BOTH is selected in "BASS OUT".
Listening to unprocessed input signals
In STRAIGHT mode, two channel stereo sources are
output from only the front left and right speakers. Multi-
channel sources are decoded straight into the appropriate
channels without any additional effect processing.
Press STRAIGHT (or press AMP to select the
AMP mode, then press STRAIGHT on the remote
control) to select STRAIGHT.

Press STRAIGHT (EFFECT) again so that "STRAIGHT"
disappears from the display when you want to turn the
sound effect back on.
Virtual CINEMA DSP
Virtual CINEMA DSP allows you to enjoy the CINEMA
DSP programs without surround speakers. It creates
virtual speakers to reproduce the natural sound field.
If you set "SUR. L/R SP" to NONE (see page 63), Virtual
CINEMA DSP activates automatically whenever you
select a CINEMA DSP sound field program.
Note
Virtual CINEMA DSP will not activate, even when "SUR. L/R
SP" is set to NONE (see page 63) in the following cases:
– When MULTI CH INPUT is selected as the input source.
– When headphones are connected to the PHONES jack.

Selecting input modes

This unit comes with a variety of input jacks. Do the
following to select the type of input signals you want to
use.

Rotate INPUT to select the input source.

In most cases, use AUTO.

AUTO
Automatically selects input signals in
the following order:
1) Digital signals
2) Analog signals
DTS
Selects only digital signals encoded in
DTS. If no DTS signals are input, no
sound is output.
ANALOG
Selects only analog signals. If no
analog signals are input, no sound is
output.
* If this unit detects a Dolby Digital or DTS signal, the
decoder automatically switches to the appropriate
decoder.

You can adjust the default input mode of this unit (see page 69).
