5. MUTE/SERVO LOCK/MODE SWITCH
In the "out" position, FM interstation noise is fully eliminated, FM
statiOll~
are automatically rme tuned and
locked in, and FM stereophonic broadcasts are automatically reproduced in stereo. Depressing this switch
disables the Mute and Servo Locked circuits and receives all FM broadcasts in Mono.
NOTE: THE MUTE CIRCUIT WILL ELIMINATE WEAK STATIONS. IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE SUCH
STATIONS, DEPRESS THIS SWITCH. BROADCASTS ARE THEN AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVED
IN THE QUIETEST MODE, MONO.
For TOUCH LOCK operation, See No 13. TUNING CONTROL.
6. LOUDNESS
To compensate for losses in human hearing at low listening levels known as the Fletcher-Munson hearing curve,
the low frequencies are automatically boosted when the switch is depressed. This compensation is tied to the
position of the VOLUME CONTROL.
Rotation of the VOLUME CONTROL beyond indicated "OdB"
position disables the loudness boost. When the switch is off, the frequency response is flat at all listening levels.
7. BASS CONTROL
Modifies the low frequency sound of left and right channels as much as ±IOdB. Set this control at a suitable
position for your taste and room acoustics.
8. TREBLE CONTROL
Modifies the high frequency sound of left and right channels as much as ±10dB. Set this control at a suitable
position for your taste and room acoustics.
9. BALANCE CONTROL
This is for balancing the relative sound of the left and right channel speakers. Clockwise rotation reduces the
volume from the left speaker, counterclockwise rotation reduces the volume from the right speaker.
10. VOLUME CONTROL
Rotating this control clockwise increases the volume of both channels.
11. TAPE MONITOR
Depressing this switch permits playback or monitoring of a tape deck connected to the TAPE IN/OUT jacks. If
your tape deck is equipped with separate recording and playback heads, you may monitor directly from the
just recorded tape as a quality check. By pushing this switch in and out it is possible to directly compare the
quality of the recording to the original program source. In all other cases, leave this switch off. For recording,
the TAPE OUT jacks are always in parallel with the SOURCE, so recording is possible regardless of the position
of the TAPE MONITOR switch.
12. FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCHES
Switches for selecting desired program source: AM, FM, PHONO or AUX.
13. TUNING CONTROL
By turning the TUNING CONTROL you can select AM or FM stations. The TUNING KNOB is electronically
connected with the TOUCH LOCK tuning system that automatically senses your touch when you are tuning
to FM broadcasts. Tune in the program for maximum reading of the SIGNAL STRENGTH indicator and il-
lumination of the center "FINE" Tuned LED. When you take your fingers off the TUNING CONTROL, il-
lunination of the "LOCKED" LED indicates operation of the TOUCH LOCK TUNING which automatically
maintains perfect center tuning and is completely stable and immune to drift.
NOTE: FOR TOUCH LOCK OPERATION, THE MUTE/SERVO/MODE SWITCH SHOULD BE IN THE OUT
POSITION. WHILE YOU ARE TOUCHING THE TUNING CONTROL WITH YOUR FINGERS, THE
