Making a Basic Recording
The Hitachi VM-D965LA/VM-D865LA uses PROGRAM AE auto exposure that autom
optimum shutter speed (either 1/60, 1/120, i/180, 1/250, 1/850, 1/500, 1/750, 1/1000
1/4000 of a second), The iris adjusts automatically in response to the shutter speed,
ROGRAM AE button to select the expo-

C When you are ready to record press the Start/
J Stop button. "REC" appears and the camcorder
records the picture you see in the viewfinder or
on the LCD monitor.
The record indicator lights when the camcorder
starts recording.
Note: This camcorder records in the Digital 8
format only,
Note: if you use other camcorders to ploy back
standard 8mm tape recorded on this cam¬
corder, mosaic-like noise may appear in the
playback picture and/or playback sound may
be interrupted.
Note: if you use other camcorders to play back
a tape recorded on this camcorder in the IP
mode, mosaic-like noise may appear in the
playback picture and/or playback sound may
be interrupted.
Note: It is recommended that you use HtME
tape to record in the IP mode,
1 Connect the camcorder to a power source (See
pages p20).
<y Insert a cassette ("Inserting and Removing
^ Cassettes", p21).
If you want to view the picture being recorded
on the LCD monitor, open the LCD monitor; if
you want to view' the picture in the viewfinder,
leave the LCD monitor closed.
<2 Make sure that the sub power switch is in the
STANDBY position.

To stop recording press the Start/Stop button
and "REC" disappears from the viewfinder or
LCD monitor replaced by "'•11". This places
the camcorder in standby.
n After recording, slide the CAM/OFF/ VIDEO
switch to OFF position to turn off the cam¬
corder.
Note: If the LCD monitor is opened or dosed
during recording, several white stripes may
appear in the picture, but this does not indi¬
cate a fault. However, these stripes are record¬
ed with the picture, so it is recommended that
you do not close or open the LCD monitor dur¬
ing recording.
Note: "TAPE" flashes in the viewfinder or on the
LCD monitor when the tab on the side of the
cassette is completely visible,
Note: "TAPE END" flashes in the viewfinder or
on the LCD monitor when about 3 minutes or
less remain of the tape cassette.
Note: If the camcorder is left in record/ pause
mode for more than 5 minutes, the camcorder
turns off automatically. To restart it press the
Start/Stop button and the camcorder returns to
record/pause mode.
