SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING
Have qualified personnel do all maintenance and
troubleshooting work.
Turn the engine off before working inside the machine
or servicing the engine.
Remove guards only when necessary to perform
maintenance and replace them when the maintenance
requiring their removal is complete. If guards are
missing from the machine, obtain replacements from a
Lincoln Distributor. (See Operating Manual Parts List.)
Read the Safety Precautions in the front of this manual and
in the Engine Owner's Manual before working on this
machine.
Keep all equipment safety guards, covers, and devices in
position and in good repair. Keep hands, hair, clothing, and
tools away from the gears, fans, and all other moving parts
when starting, operating, or repairing the equipment.

ROUTINE AND PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

DAILY
• Check the Engine oil levels.
• Refill the fuel tank to minimize moisture condensation in the
tank.
• Open the water drain valve located on the bottom of the water
separator element 1 or 2 turns and allow to drain into a
container suitable for diesel fuel for 2 to 3 seconds. Repeat the
above drainage procedure until diesel fuel is detected in the
container.
• Check coolant level in the coolant recovery bottle. If full empty
bottle.
WEEKLY
Blow out the machine with low pressure air periodically. In
particularly dirty locations, and the radiator, this may be required
once a week.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE

Refer to the "Periodic Checks" section of the Engine Operator's
Manual for the recommended maintenance schedule of the
following:
a) Engine Oil and Filter
b) Air Cleaner
c) Fuel Filter - and Delivery System
d) Alternator Belt
e) Battery
f ) Cooling System
Refer to Table D.1 at the end of this section for various engine

AIR FILTER

CAUTION
Excessive air filter restriction will result in reduced
engine life.
WARNING
Never use gasoline or low flash point solvents for
cleaning the air cleaner element. A fire or explosion
could result.
CAUTION
Never run the engine without the air cleaner. Rapid engine
wear will result from contaminants, such as dust and dirt
being drawn into the engine.
The diesel engine is equipped with a dry type air filter. Never
apply oil to it. Service the air cleaner as follows:
Replace the element as indicated by the service indicator. (See
Service Instructions and Installation Tips for Engine Air Filter.)
FUSE - Check and replace 5A slow blow fuse that protects the
