Installing the Floating-Point Unit
The HP 82327 Floating-Point Unit (FPU) is an MC68882 floating-point
coprocessor IC, which provides increased computation speed. The FPU may
have been installed at the factory, depending on the options ordered. If the
FPU is not present, the FPU socket will be empty and you can install the FPU
as descri bed below.
Caution
,
Follow the procedure carefully, particularly regarding the
alignment of the FPU in its socket. It is possible to damage
the FPU and the socket if you are not careful. Also, follow the
precautions in "Handling Circuit Boards and lCs Safely."
1. Remove the FPU from its protective anti-static package.
2. Look at the figure that follows. Note that the FPU and the socket on the
measurement coprocessor each have one notched corner. These corners must
be aligned in order to insert the FPU in the socket. Also, the FPU has a
"dot" indicating its top edge, which must align with the "arrow" in the
socket, as shown.
