This instaliation manual will help you obtain a
safe, etricient, dependabie instaliation for your
gas firepiace insert. Please read and under-
stand these installation instructions before be-
ginning your instailation.
Before beginning the actual installation, your
Superior Factory-Built fireplace system must
be modified in order to accept Superior's gas
insert. The degree of modification
will
depend
on which Superior Factory-Buiit fireplace will
be used.
DO not anemptto modify or alterthe construc-
tion of the gas insert or any of its components.
Any modification of the insert may void the
warranty,certifications or approvaisof thesys-
tem.
Masonryfireplaces generaily do not have to be
modified, however;speciaiconsiderationsmust
be understood.
This documentcoverssix (6) models of thegas
insert Instructions are provided for ail models
and, therefore, certain details may not be re-
quired for your insert application.
"N'land " P modeisare the standard configura-
tion. "NB" and
"PB"
modeis come with the
(318-1600 optional blower kit installed "NX"
and " P X models include the GIB-1600 aiong
with decorative brick side panels, aiuminum
brass-tone louvers and vermiculite.
The manufacture and shipping ol these appli-
ances involve components which may cause
annoying, but harmless odors during initiai
operation. Provideextraventilation to the room
for the initial 2-3 hour break in period.

States
These appliances comply with American Na-
tional Safety Standards and are tested and
listed by IAS Services to AGAIANSI 221.44-
1994 as a "Direct-Vent Wall Heater."
Installation mustconform to iocalcodes. In the
absence of local codes installation must con-
form w ~ t h t' e current hzt on21 Fuel Gas Code,
ANS 27231 Theseappl ances,when insta lec,
must be electrically grounded in accordance
with local codes, and with the National Electri-
cal Code. ANSimFPA No 70-1
995.
These appiiances comply with the Nailonzl
Standards of Canada and are certified by IAS
Selvices to CANICGAQ.19 as a "Direct-Vent
Wall Heater."
Instaliation mustconform to iocalcodes. In the
absence of local codes, installation must con-
form with the current CAN 1-0149 lnstallation
Code. These appliances, when instailed; must
be electricaiiy grounded in accordance with
local codes or with the current CSA C22.2
Canadian Electric Code.

INSPECTED ANNUALLY BY A PROFESSIONAL
SERVICE PERSON.
IMPORTANT: MORE FREQUENT INSPEC-
TIONS/CLEANINGS MAY BE REQUIRED DUE
TO EXCESSIVE LINT BUILDUP FROM CAR-
PETING, BEDDING MATERIAL, ETC.. IT IS
IMPERATIVETHATTHECONTROLCOMPART-
MENT. BURNERS AN0 CIRCULATING AIR
PASSAGE WAYS OFTHEAPPLIANCEBE KEPT
CLEAN.
IMPORTANT: CHILDREN AND ADULTS
SHOULD BE ALERTED TO THE HAZARD OF
HIGHSURFACETEMPERATUREAND SHOULD
TAKE MEASURESTO REMAIN DISTANT FROM
THEAPPLlANCETOAVOiD BURNS DRCLOTH-
ING IGNITION.
IMPORTANT: YOUNG CHILDREN SHOULD BE
CAREFULLY SUPERVISED WHEN THEY ARE
IN THE SAME ROOM WITH THE HEATER.
IMP0RTANT:THEGLASSENCLOSUREPANEL.
IF REMOVED FOR SERVICING THE HEATER.
MUST BE REPLACED
PRIOR TO OPERATING
THE HEATER.
Provide adequate clearances around air open-
ings and adequate accessibility clearance lor
service and proper operation. Never obstruct
the front opening of the appliance.
These systems have been designed to operate
on either natural or propane gas only. The use
ol other fuels wiil degrade the performance of
these appliances.
Minimum inletgas pressure i s 4 5 inches water
column for natural gas and 11 inches water
column lor propane lor the purpose of input
adjustment.
