The SECTEL 1500 transmits data in secure mode only. The SECTEL 1500
contains abuilt-in modem designed to accommodate secure data commu¬
nication via an RS-232C connector. You should review the data terminal
equipment (DTE) operator's manual before operating the SECTEL 1500 in
the data mode. The configuration of the data terminal connected to the
SECTEL 1500 must be set as specified in the following paragraphs.
The design of the SECTEL 1500 provides asecure telecommunications
link with other data equipment. The SECTEL 1500 configuration classifies
it as data communication equipment (DCE).

The SECTEL 1500 functions as amodem, capable of handling both syn¬
chronous or asynchronous communication. Using the DTE operator's
manual as aguide, set the communication protocols used to interface the
DTE to the SECTEL 1500.
The following paragraphs summarize the information needed to set the pro
t o c o l s .
N O T E
Both ends of the communication link must he set to the same configuration.
Synchronous Protocol Settings for DTE
Use the following procedure to set the DTE for secure synchronous com¬
m u n i c a t i o n .
