3.
Type YES and a carriage return.
TEST will ask you which drive you wish to test. If this is your
first time through the procedure, you should reply with a
"P"
in
order to test
SY~:,
the system drive. If you purchased two
drives, you may repeat this test with the second drive by typing
"1"
after you perform "System Generation." As an alternative,
you may switch to the other drive by using the "Switch" proce-
dure (Page
0-33).
4.
Type¢ and a carriage return. TEST will ask you to insert the diskette to
be used in the test. DO NOT use the distribution diskette.
5.
Insert a diskette that has been initialized into the left-hand drive
(SY~:)
and press the carriage return.
TEST will print a list of test options. If this is your first time
through "Diagnostic," perform these tests in the order listed.
To start a test, type the letter which precedes the name of the
test in the listing, and then type a carriage return. To end a test,
type a CTRL-C on your console.
The instructions for each test are printed below. You may now proceed to the
first test, labeled "Drive Speed."
Drive Speed
First time through "Diagnostic"?
Run this test to set your drive speed. Rerun the
test only if you suspect speed problems.
1.
Type a T and a carriage return.
The console screen will display the relative rotational speed of
the drive under test. A decimal number, which should be close
to
1.000,
will scroll, updating as it scrolls. The rotational speed
tolerance is one percent. The final value should be between
0.990
and
1.010.
Do not adjust the speed unless it is out of
tolerance.
You may have to perform this test again at some future time,
depending upon how heavily your drive is used. As the drive
bearings wear, the speed may change slightly. Fluctuations
within the tolerance are normal and may be attributed to varia-
tions in temperature and humidity.
