DIAGNOSTIC (TEST)
A Diagnostic program is used to troubleshoot computer systems, or the various
components of a computer system. The most common diagnostics are programs
that are used to find possible read/write errors in memory devices.
HDOS should be in the command mode, with a prompt(>) printed at the left
margin of the console. The diskette you initialized during "INIT" will now be
used with a program called TEST to test your system. The directory which was
established on this diskette during "Initialization" will be destroyed, so it will
have to be reinitialized before you can use it for program or data storage.
When you have completed the" System Set-Up Procedure," and are performing
everyday operations such as programming or text-editing, you may wish to use
"Diagnostic" to test new diskettes or to test your system. You may copy TEST
onto your system volume(s) using a program called ONECOPY; or by the use of
methods discussed in the HDOS Manual. If you do this, you may substitute a
system volume for the distribution diskette throughout this procedure.
Like INIT, this program stands alone in memory and operates in a conversational
fashion. It will instruct you when to perform certain operations and will ask you
to make decisions. The following instructions are intended to clarify the various
options. Each time TEST prints a message, you should perform the action
indicated in the appropriate numbered instruction. Many of the numbered
instructions have explanations printed beneath them. You may refer to the TEST
output in "Appendix B" for additional help.
1.
Type TEST and a carriage return.
HDOS will dismount the diskette(s). This means that you will
have to reboot the system when this procedure is terminated.
TEST is now resident in memory and has taken control of the
following operations. It will first tell you to remove the disk-
ette(s ).
2.
Remove the distribution diskette from
SY~:
and press the carriage
return.
TEST will now identify itself and print a message. If you wish to
proceed at this time, make sure you have an initialized diskette
available to use in this test. If you would rather not proceed,
type a NO§ and reinstall the distribution diskette. You will
then have to execute the "Bootstrap."
