Engine protection mode

Gi, GSi
In a low oil pressure or engine overheat situation, the EFI sys-
tem enters an Engine Protection Mode. In these situations, nor-
mal engine operation is limited to 2500 to 2700 RPM or less.
Above 2500 to 2700 RPM the engine will exhibit poor running
characteristics. Use the oil pressure and water temperature
gauges to verify a problem exists, then check the engine crank-
case for proper oil level and the water inlets for obstructions.
The low oil pressure/engine overheat problem must be correc-
ted before the engine will return to normal operation.
To reset the Engine Protection Mode after the problem is cor-
rected, allow the engine to cool and then continue with normal
operation.
NOTE: Should the problem continue, contact your nearest
Volvo Penta dealer and have the engine checked.
Master/slave installation
Gi, GSi
For twin unit installations both engine EMCs can be tied to-
gether electronically. One engine will then be the "master" engi-
ne and the other will be the "slave" engine. The starboard engi-
ne or the engine with the power steering pump is always con-
nected as the "master" engine. If one engine has a fault that
causes it to go into Engine Protection Mode (low oil pressure or
engine overheat) the other engine will also go into Engine Pro-
tection Mode.
High altitude operation
Engines with carburetors only
A performance loss at altitudes above 1600 m (5000 ft.) can be
expected. If you are boating above 1600 m altitude for a short
time, a lower pitch propeller will restore some of the lost perfor-
mance. Long term use above altitudes of 1600 m may require
carburetter adjustment.
