Warning
To prevent property damage, personal
injury, or death, observe the following
warning:
Always install wheel chocks when
manually releasing the parking brake,
or the vehicle can roll.
For towing, make sure the vehicle is
securely connected to the tow vehicle
and tow vehicle parking brake is
applied before releasing the disabled
vehicle s parking brake.
Caution
To prevent property damage, observe the
following: Due to many variables that
exist in towing, positioning, and lifting,
towing is the sole responsibility of the
towing operator.
If lifting and towing the vehicle from
the rear, disconnect the driveshaft at
the front axle location.
If lifting and towing the vehicle from
the front, disconnect the driveshaft at
the rear axle location.
Caution (Continued)
If towing the vehicle and neither end
is lifted off the ground, both
driveshafts must be disconnected at
the axle locations.
To prevent vehicle, engine,
or transmission damage, always place the
transfer case in N (Neutral) or remove the
axle shafts before towing the vehicle,
even a short distance.
If the vehicle cannot be shifted into
Neutral (N), do not use the tow eye to
tow the vehicle. Vehicle damage may
occur.
Before moving the towed vehicle, check for
adequate road clearance of vehicle
components. Unload the towed vehicle prior
to towing to reduce any abnormal loads to
the vehicle components resulting from the
towing procedures. Before towing, be sure
to fully release the parking brake. See
(Continued)
Parking Brake 0 218.

Vehicle Care
Towing the vehicle from the front by raising
the front of the vehicle by the front axle is
strongly preferred. When towing a vehicle
with the front wheels suspended, the
following extra precautions must be taken
to avoid transmission or differential damage:
The transfer case must be in Neutral (N).
See Four-Wheel Drive 0 215.
If the transfer case cannot be shifted in
to Neutral (N), the axle shafts must be
removed from the axle assembly to
prevent the wheels from driving the
differential and the transmission. The
wheel hub ends must be covered to
prevent loss of axle lubricant and
entrance of contaminants.
