11. Close the microprocessor retainer and lock it into position with the small handle to secure the new
microprocessor in the socket.
12. Reinstall the heat sink and fan assembly. See "Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 95.
13. Reconnect all cables that were disconnected from the system board.

Replacing a memory module

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
To replace a memory module, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 82.
3. Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.
4. Remove the heat sink and fan assembly. See "Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 95.
